Short BioI was born in Lenoir, North Carolina, a small town in the foothills of the Tar Heel state. I knew at an early age that I wanted to teach, but denied my calling for many years while going through school. It wasn't until high school that I realized that teaching was the profession I was meant to pursue. Upon graduating from high school, I entered North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina to get my Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics with a Concentration in Secondary Education. I student taught at Hillside High School and loved every moment of it. However, I realized that my journey into the world of mathematical pedagogy was just beginning. I graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina where I obtained my Master's of Arts in Mathematics with a Concentration in Pedagogy. My current research interests include: Kac-Moody algebras, Quantum Groups, Crystal Bases of finite and affine Lie algebras, and instructional assessments in the mathematics classroom.
